Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson will be desperate to bolster his attacking options when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Eagles have struggled for goals and are languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table. Wilfried Zaha leads their scoring charts with just three goals – Andros Townsend is the only other forward to have found the back of the net this season. The former England manager has highlighted a new forward as his number one priority in January.

The latest set of reports suggest West Ham and Palace will battle it out to sign Bayern Munich forward Sandro Wagner. The German has racked up a decent scoring record in Germany but isn’t getting any younger. The 30-year-old has been forced to play second fiddle to Robert Lewandowski, and could be available for as little as £6 million.

However, if the Eagles truly want to solve their goal-scoring crisis, they need to set their sights higher. Instead of Wagner, Palace should attempt to sign Frankfurt hitman Sebastian Haller.

Valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt, the forward joined the Bundesliga side last summer after racking up an impressive scoring record for FC Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie. The Frenchman made a decent start to life in Germany, ending the season with nine goals. Since then, Haller has taken his game to the next level which is showing in his performances.

The 24-year-old is one of the most in-form strikers in world football, netting eight goals in just 11 Bundesliga appearances so far this season. Haller is not only grabbing the headlines for his goalscoring ability but also his willingness to bring others into the game. The forward has already created five goals, which makes him the perfect partner to get the best out of Zaha in the Palace attack.

A strong, powerful forward, Haller would be the striker Palace fans thought they were getting when they signed Christian Benteke.
