Crystal Palace are enjoying a good patch of form they hope will continue throughout the rest of the season.
Roy Hodgson has got his side playing with freedom and the pace and power they now have up-front is causing significant problems for whoever they face.
That was an obvious quality they were lacking throughout the first half of the season but now boosted by the arrival of Michy Batshuayi, Palace look a completely different team for opponents to contend with.
Seeing as the “Batman” is only at Selhurst Park until the end of the season, the focus this summer will surely be recruiting a top striker to accompany Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham.
If he could adapt quickly to the Premier League, Crystal Palace could find themselves a terrific option in Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The French U21 star, (who is valued at £9.9 million on Transfermarkt) has proven to be a real handful in his short Bundesliga career so far.
Having arrived from Lyon in the summer, Jean-Philippe Mateta bolstered Mainz’s attack significantly, shown by the seven goals he has pitched in with this season.
At the age of 21, Mateta has quickly adapted his game to become a leading striker, whose skills range from holding the ball up and bringing others into play to simply finding the back of the net from a variety of different situations.
Crystal Palace look likely to lose the significant firepower they added to their ranks over the course of this season, so Jean-Philippe Mateta would be a signing that fills that void perfectly.
