Journalist: Crystal Palace keen on summer coup to kick off De Boer era

These are exciting times for the Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern, who can’t wait for life under the stewardship of new boss Frank De Boer.

The former Barcelona star is a big name in the game, despite an ill-fated spell in charge of Inter Milan, and brings with him an exciting footballing philosophy, crafted during his time with Ajax.

So, as if the Eagles propping up our bar weren’t in a good enough mood already, reports emanating out of Turkey have our south London locals chomping at the bit for the summer.

Indeed, Turkish report Onur Tugrul has revealed on Twitter that the club are keen on signing Fenerbahce forward Robin van Persie this summer. The Dutchman – one of the most feared in the Premier League during his spells with Arsenal and Manchester United – would be quite the coup for Palace.

Despite his age, the 33-year-old has been one of the most celebrated marksmen on these shores for much of the past decade and brings with him a palpable goal threat, even since joining Fenerbahce.

Pairing him with the likes of Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha in attack has proved an exciting notion for our resident Palace-mad punters, though Tugurl does also state that there is a chance he will remain in the Turkish capital.

Still, it’s nice to dream…
