Newcastle United and Crystal Palace fans have gathered together in the Transfer Tavern this morning to discuss a potential move that could be extremely valuable to both clubs.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle United have opened talks with Crystal Palace with an interest to bring Andros Townsend back to the club he left last summer and the Magpies are prepared to offer Chancel Mbemba in exchange.
Townsend has been a regular player for the Eagles this season following his purchase last summer but has struggled to impress, whilst Mbemba has not featured for Newcastle since October and is currently away at the African Cup of Nations.
Newcastle are keen to bring Townsend back to the North East on-loan, with an option to buy in the summer, and the offer of Mbemba could be intriguing for Sam Allardyce’s side – as the Eagles are lacking in defensive numbers.
However, our landlord isn’t convinced a deal will go through as Palace have a number of defensive targets and would probably prefer not to lose a player this late in the window.
A large contingent of Palace fans by the pool table aren’t too sure what to make of this particular deal, with some supporters wanting to bolster their defence with the signing of Mbemba, whilst some think it would be silly to see Townsend depart Selhurst Park!
Will Townsend secure a return to Newcastle before tomorrow’s deadline? Let us know in the comments below!
