Crystal Palace fans here in the Tavern are extremely worried about their current goalkeeping situation, as Wayne Hennessey remains the only fit senior shot-stopper in the squad.
The Eagles find themselves joint on points with Swansea City who currently sit in the relegation zone, as only goal difference is stopping Roy Hodgson’s men from falling into the bottom three. Although, the Crystal Palace chief has revealed some promising news on the recruitment front, as according to reports from Sky Sports, Diego Cavalieri is closing in on a deal that brings him to Selhurst Park.
And, when asked about the progression of the deal, the 70-year-old stated:
“Everything’s been agreed. It’s a question of paperwork now.”
The former Liverpool ‘keeper made eight appearances during his time at Anfield, but didn’t manage to make his Premier League debut for the Reds. Therefore, the 35-year-old shot-stopper will be hoping to earn his first top-flight minutes at Selhurst Park, as it’s likely that he’ll take up an immediate position on the bench for the Eagles.
Encouragingly, it appears as if things are taking a step in the right direction for a club that’s been left devastated by injuries thus far, with Hodgson desperate to add cover in the goalkeeping department for the absent Julian Speroni.
The Eagles will be delighted to have added another senior goalkeeper to their ranks, as Hodgson now has more than one senior ‘keeper at his disposal. Although, after witnessing the injury crisis that’s been causing damage to Palace’s hopes of a future in the Premier League so far this season, you wouldn’t rule out supporters catching wind of another casualty.
