The Crystal Palace fans here in the Transfer Tavern are anxious to see which players Sam Allardyce will sign in the transfer window to help steer them to safety this season following the sacking of Alan Pardew.
The Eagles are currently sitting on the edge of the relegation zone with confidence at an all time low. Alan Pardew, a former Palace player, promised much but ultimately delivered very little leading to the appointment of Sam Allardyce.
The arrivals of Christian Benteke, Andros Townsend and Steve Mandanda in the summer fuelled hope of European qualification but sadly it appears that survival will be the target this year and the Palace fans in the bar are disappointed.
Sam Allardyce’s brief is clear, avoid relegation – something the former Bolton and West Ham manager is all too familiar with. ‘Big Sam’ is back in football following his short tenure as England manager and he needs to repair his damaged reputation with results.
The Eagles fans at the Transfer Tavern believe this is the easiest relegation fight of Sam Allardyce’s managerial career, and they are expecting a quick turnaround in fortunes, though the recent loss to Swansea is serious cause for concern.
Our landlord is less than convinced about Sam Allardyce’s role with the Eagles; sure, he’ll keep Palace in the Premier League but his appointment further demonstrates a lack of ambition from the senior figures at the club.
The only way Sam Allardyce can allay the fears of the Palace faithful is to sign quality players, drag the club out of the relegation scrap and play exciting football.
So, with that in mind, here are two targets that could actually join the club…
