According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Tottenham are interested in bringing midfielder Stanislav Lobotka to North London. The 23-year-old currently plays his football in Spain with Celta Vigo and only signed a new long-term deal with the La Liga club back in February of this year, yet that doesn’t appear to have put-off Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is reportedly keen on bringing the midfielder to the club.

And these recent reports should be of keen interest to Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, as it must prompt his side into making a move for £13.5 million-rated Tottenham ace Harry Winks (as per Transfermarkt), who looks set to suffer from Lobotka’s possible arrival.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 22-year-old Winks endured a testing campaign in North London last time round in mustering just 16 Premier League appearances for Pochettino’s side, although some of his struggles can be put down to injury problems, especially in the second half of the season.

Nonetheless, even during the first half of the campaign, in which he starred on his debut for England in Lithuania back in October, the midfielder wasn’t always a regular starter for Tottenham to suggest that he maybe isn’t at the forefront of Pochettino’s midfield plans, possibly hence the interest in Celta Vigo’s Lobotka.

As such, Winks could be one man to suffer greatly from the 23-year-old’s arrival, even if Mousa Dembele does leave the club, which is why Hodgson and Palace should be ready to pounce by making a move, likely to be a loan one, for the one-time England international.

Like Spurs, Palace have so far embarked upon a quiet summer in bringing in just a handful of additions, although the recent arrival of Max Meyer from Schalke is one that has certainly excited several Eagles fans up and down the country.

And although Cheikhou Kouyate has made the move across London from West Ham, the departure of Yohan Cabaye earlier this summer, alongside the fact that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell, could well prompt Hodgson to move for another accomplished Premier League midfielder - Winks could be that man.

The 22-year-old seriously impressed in his one and only England cap last autumn and looked set to make a strong case for World Cup selection were it not for injury, and with 61 appearances already for Tottenham, it’s clear that he has a bright future in the game.

But first team football could be at a premium under Pochettino this season were Lobotka to arrive, which is why Palace must be ready to make a move for the talented Englishman in a bid to further strengthen their midfield ranks.
