Crystal Palace kept hold of their best players in January like Wilfried Zaha, but the future of another key man is now in doubt.
The Mirror report that Chelsea, or more specifically Frank Lampard, is unhappy with Kepa Arrizabalaga and is keen to sell him in the summer, with Vicente Guaita reportedly lined up as a replacement.
Guaita may be 33 years of age but he has had an impressive season for the Eagles, as shown by the fact that even a mistake at the weekend which cost his team points was quickly forgiven by his manager and fans alike.
The Spaniard’s future at Selhurst Park may largely depend on what happens with Kepa, as Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is believed to be keen on keeping him at the club, which is understandable considering he cost the Blues £71m.
Nevertheless, if Chelsea are interested in Guaita, it is entirely possible that other clubs are taking notice of his performances too, and therefore Palace should take steps to safeguard his future in south London.
He is a very popular player amongst the Eagles fanbase and his departure would likely not sit well with those who have lavished praise on the shot-stopper this term.
There have been calls from supporters to hand Guaita a new contract due to his impressive form, and if he left it would present the club with yet another challenge in the transfer market, adding to the need for a new right-back which was almost addressed with the narrowly unsuccessful attempt to complete the signing of Nathan Ferguson last month.
Despite Palace struggling of late with no wins in seven and managing just 46% average possession this season, they have been solid defensively and Guaita has been a major influence in that, so it is little surprise that he has conceded just 47 goals in 42 Premier League games for the club – a record which shows his quality.
