Yet more bad news for Crystal Palace – Report

Crystal Palace fans here in the Tavern are currently feeling slightly unsettled, as injury troubles could just make relegation a reality once again.

The Eagles have had a torrid time with injuries so far this season, as casualties seem to be a regular occurrence at Selhurst Park. Indeed, Roy Hodgson will have wanted nothing less than to head into a crucial three-months with all of Palace’s star players intact, but sadly this isn’t how things have panned out in the English capital, as according to reports in the Sun, Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni is set to be sideline for eight weeks with a knee injury.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper is the second longest-serving player in the Premier League after racking up years of valiant service for the Eagles that have seen them rise up to the challenges of the top-flight. And, suffering a knee injury in training this past week will be a huge blow for the team, as Hodgson is set to miss his most experienced and senior player.

Indeed, desperate times call for desperate measures at Selhurst Park, as the Eagles are now left with only one senior ‘keeper at one of the most important times in the club’s Premier League history. And, with the transfer window doors now slammed firmly shut, it looks as if Hodgson will be hoping that No.1 choice goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey can carry the load for Palace.

The Eagles have been plagued with an injury crisis at exactly the wrong time in their season, as relegation was already a worry on the minds of both fans and players. And, having already suffered the setback of star player Wilfried Zaha facing a month out on the sidelines, insult has been added to injury with the absence of their veteran goalkeeper.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Although Speroni was only a back-up option to first-choice ‘keeper Wayne Hennessey, the 38-year-old’s experience will be a huge miss from off the bench. And, with them now not able to seek any reinforcements after the closing of the transfer window, the Eagles are going to have to hope that the injury curse doesn’t claim another goalkeeping victim in what is critical times for Crystal Palace.
