Cuco Martina could leave Everton on loan

Everton could be about to see one of their experienced defenders leave the club this summer, with an agreement on the verge of being completed.

According to Football Insider, the Toffees are prepared to let Cuco Martina leave Goodison Park on a season-long loan move, with Stoke City thought to be the likely destination.

It is understood that the 28-year-old does not feature in Marco Silva’s plans and he is happy to let him leave, whilst it has also been revealed that he has been training away from the first-team.

The full-back had made a number of appearances for the side last season in the absence of Seamus Coleman, filling in on the left and the right of defence.

However, once the Republic of Ireland international recovered from his horror leg-break, the former Southampton man lost his place in the side, despite appearing to be one of the first names on the team sheet under Sam Allardyce.

The Verdict:

With the fact that Martina is training away from the first-team, it makes complete sense to get a move away from the Goodison Park outfit.

The 28-year-old would have found it extremely difficult to break into the senior squad and could look to get restarted with Stoke in the Championship.

There is no doubt that he has some ability, although he may be better off joining former team-mate Ashley Williams at The Potters, where he also headed to on loan for the duration of the season.
