Dalglish Plans To Sign A £5M Nutter, But What Will The Fans Think?

Why do I have the feeling this one isn’t going to go down too well?  I have a suspicion that this rumour will be met with about as much positivity as Harry turning up to the Royal Wedding reception in one of his fancy dress outfits….

Our good friends at The Daily Mail are today claiming that Kenny Dalglish wants to recruit former Manchester City bad boy Joey Barton in an attempt to add some more home grown players to his squad.

Barton has had a checkered past that frankly we are all aware of, and pieces about the 28 year old generally turn into just a run down of his misdemeanors.  Well I feel at this moment in time there is no point running through all his offenses once again, maybe its time to look at his qualities as a footballer.

As a City fan myself I have witnessed Barton first hand on many occasions, and somewhere deep down, when you remove all the baggage there is a very good footballer.  He has an eye for a pass, and a tremendous work rate that would endear him very easily to fans of any club…were it not for that inescapable past.

His success this season at Newcastle has been so great, I think many people have been taken aback.  His form would surely have brought England caps this term had it not been for him managing to alienate most of the international setup with some poorly chosen words of wisdom.

It is maybe the fact that he has played so much of this season on the right side of the Newcastle midfield that is most impressive, normally considered a ruiner he has had to demonstrate some technical ability in his new position and he has excelled there, in fact his partnership with Andy Carroll was pretty impressive, and that is one of the reasons that Kenny Dalglish is supposedly considering the move so closely.

The midfielder is currently embroiled in contract negotiations and there don’t appear to be any signs that both parties are nearing any agreement, and that is why clubs are now monitoring the situation carefully.  As well as Liverpool, tribalfootball reckon Aston Villa are also showing interest, and there is also rumours that West Ham are considering a move should they survive relegation.

Kenny is supposedly ready to offer £5million to secure the players signature, which would be an absolute steal in many ways.  I can’t help but feel it wouldn’t be a popular signing though, I think many people now realise that Barton is a good player, but even in this season where he seems to have straightened out somewhat, he has still been caught punching Morten Gamst Pedersen so it isn’t as if the old Joey is completely dead.

From a footballing point of view he would be a great signing for Liverpool, whether the fans will take to him though remains to be seen, if there is anything in this rumour, it could be an interesting one to keep an eye on.
