Kenny Dalglish’s search for a suitable strike-partner for Fernando Torres goes on, and the Liverpool boss has apparently been keeping tabs on Serie A recently, having been linked with Roma’s Mirko Vucinic and Lazio’s Mauro Zarate.
Vucinic has actually been linked with a move to Anfield before, and the 27-year-old has hit 9 goals so far this season, yet Roma would demand a transfer fee of at least £20m for their striker. This puts his price-tag higher than those of other potential targets Luis Suarez and Alvaro Negredo, and may price Liverpool out of a move for the Montenegro man.
Lazio’s Zarate, meanwhile, may present a much more attractive option for Liverpool. Although he has only scored 4 times this season, he would cost substantially less than Vucinic at just £12m, and at only 23-years-old would represent a better investment.
This would also fit in with Damien Comolli’s pledge to bring young talent to the club to build for the future.
We’re now half-way through the January transfer window, and despite being linked with a great number of targets, Liverpool have yet to make a move for any player. With Ryan Babel on the verge of leaving the club, they will need to find a replacement striker, and they will need to act soon.
