Dalglish’s £32M Midfield Plan Is Two Thirds Dull…

Everyone loves a good internet rumour. There’s a good one about Elvis shooting JFK from the grassy knoll, floating around somewhere.

Here at the Transfer Tavern, we enjoy a good internet based football rumour as much as the next gang of lay-abouts, so have practically made our dreams come true with this latest peach from the Ministry of Football Rumours, Liverpool Football Club division.

Kenny Dalglish is planning to reinforce Liverpool’s midfield during the summer, and has identified 3 targets who he believes will be the perfect trio to support his new strike-force of Suarez and Carroll.

First up, good old Charlie Adam. Who hasn’t this guy been linked with on the internet these past few months? There was even a story that he had died and been replaced with a doppelganger. Only kidding…..but look closely at his ears…

Seriously, 25 year old Adam is wanted by both Liverpool and Manchester United, and it seems a certainty that he will be leaving Blackpool this summer. He’s attracted to the idea of Champions League football, so for now United might look the safer bet. But with the prospect of more game time at Liverpool, I think it’s possible we could see him pick the Scousers over the Mancs.

Dalglish’s second choice is Barcelona’s Jeffren. Who? That’s what I said. I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve never even heard of this lad. Apparently he’s a Spanish Under-21 international, but has struggled to make an impact at Barcelona. That doesn’t mean he’s rubbish. With a midfield of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi he’s got his work cut out if he wants to make it to the first team. If Liverpool buy him, then he’ll find himself behind Rodriguez and Joe Cole. If he can’t get in the side ahead of that lot, then maybe it’s time to take up sewing mate.

And finally, Ashley ‘The New Cole” Young. The Aston Villa winger is set to see make a clean break when the season is over. Gerard Houllier won’t want to hold player’s against their will, he tried that once with Anelka and look what happened. Again, Manchester United are keen to sign the 25 year old, but realistically the ex-Liverpool manager is probably as keen as the rest of us to see Ferguson huffing-puffing and generally going more and more red in the face. A deal with Liverpool would be the best move for all concerned (bar United!).

So how much is this ‘Fab 3’ going to cost? Try a grand total of £32 million. There’s no idea yet as to how much they’ll go for individually, but the latest figures being touted by the press include at least £8 million for Adam, so God knows where the other £24 million has come from! Am I missing something here? Is Jeffren really, really good then…
