We may already have Clint Dempsey and a host of American goalkeepers in the Premiership, Fulham have had Brian McBride too but it appears that a new American invasion of central midfielders is about to hit the Premier League.
Schalke player, Jermaine Jones has joined Blackburn on a loan deal until the end of the season. The 29-year old, Frankfurt-born USA international has been a mainstay of the Schalke side for several years. At one stage he even made three friendly appearances for Germany before switching allegiances to the US.
However, he has fallen out of manager Felix Magath and has found themselves on the fringes of the side. Blackburn manager Steve Kean had this to say about Jones;
“ Anybody who knows him as a player, he’s a natural ball winner, he’s a very good passer as well. He’s got a fantastic engine, he can go box-to-box, he’s a genuine all round midfield.”
Meanwhile, the guy that usually keeps Jones out of the American first team, Michael Bradley, is also reported to be leaving the Bundesliga for the Premier League. It is being reported by the American press that the Borussia Monchengladbach man was left on the bench last weekend because he is on the way to Sunderland.
The 23-year old is Steve Bruce’s number one replacement target for captain Lee Cattermole, who is not only struggling with a back injury but is also one of Kenny Dalglish’s targets at Anfield if he is allowed to bring his own players in by John W. Henry.
