If reports in The Daily Mail are true, The Blues have set aside £30million to sign the player widely regarded as the best right back in the World. They might also face competition from Manchester City who seem to be interested in every player in the World who fancies a trip to Eastland’s.
With Barca looking to launch a bid for Cesc Fabregas, the smell of £30million may be a too tempting to turn down. Alves will undoubtedly be a good buy for any team, he is full of energy, very attack minded and even pops up with the odd goal. Whether he is Ancelotti’s cup of tea is another matter. Unlike Ashley Cole, Alves is not the greatest defender, but certainly makes up for it with attacking flair. It could prove to be a deterrent for an Italian who is very conscious of the importance of having a solid back four. Manchester City’s flamboyant nature will certainly be a more favourable option for the Brazilian but, as a close friend of Robinho, he could be put off by his team-mates experience.
Currently behind Maicon in the pecking order for Brazil, Alves will know that he must show an improved defensive aspect to sway Dunga’s decision his way this summer. Whatever the outcome, Alves will be a very appealing prospect to the majority of clubs in Europe. If they can tempt the Brazilian away from the Camp Nou, they will land a player who will provide an unbelievable energy and an extra attacking option. It would be £30million would be very well spent!
