Daniel Levy must secure Barcelona’s £13.5m-rated outcast in massive Eriksen swap deal

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are well accustomed to rumours linking Christian Eriksen with a move away from the club, and they are desperately hoping he will remain in North London this summer despite interest from outside the club.

According to a recent report from the Spanish media outlet Sport, Barcelona have identified Christian Eriksen as a potential replacement for Andres Iniesta who recently departed for Vissel Kobe in Japan. Although exciting times are ahead for Tottenham Hotspur with the imminent stadium move looming on the horizon, the natural lure and charm of a move to Barcelona could eventually prove too strong for Eriksen to resist if the Catalan giants submit a formal bid for his services this summer.

With that in mind, Daniel Levy should begin preparing for negotiations by identifying a player who could move in the opposite direction to North London in a part exchange swap deal, and one player who should certainly be on his radar is Denis Suarez (valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt).

The former Manchester City employee left the Etihad Stadium for Barcelona in 2013, but he has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular amid healthy competition from the likes of Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Philippe Coutinho more recently.

However, Suarez’s failure to break into the first-team is perfectly understandable given his circumstances, so the Tottenham hierarchy should not be put off by his lack of opportunity.

The 24-year-old is a neat and tidy player who has demonstrated both the vision and range of passing to prise open defences during his spell in La Liga, and with further exposure to regular first-team football there’s no doubt he could catalyse his development.

Eriksen’s departure from Tottenham would open up a vacant position to be filled before the new season, so swapping the Denmark international for Suarez and a healthy transfer fee could represent a shrewd piece of business from the club.

Naturally, the Lilywhites faithful will be praying for Eriksen to remain at the club this summer, but if he expresses a desire to leave for the Catalan giants they might be left with no choice other than to sell up, and if that proves to be the case they should demand Suarez in return to immediately replace the great Dane.
