David Ospina looks set to finally leave Arsenal

By his high standards, Petr Cech had a poor season last year and as a result, Arsenal signed Bernd Leno in order to compete with him for the first-team spot and eventually become the club’s number one.

While the German shot-stopper might not be the club’s first-choice straight away, he will eventually replace Cech at some point this season.

With the German’s introduction, however, it now means that previous second-choice ‘keeper David Ospina’s career at the club is in jeopardy.

The Colombian goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Turkish side, Fenerbahce earlier this summer but now according to Sky Sports, Ospina is in talks with Italian side, Napoli.

According to the report, Simon Mignolet is also on Napoli’s shortlist.

The Breakdown

Although Napoli signed Alex Meret this summer he unfortunately broke his arm in training six days after his arrival and now the Italian club needs someone to take his spot.

From an Arsenal perspective, the move makes complete sense. Ospina has never really wowed the Emirates faithful, more often than not he’s provided the fans with more comical errors than great saves.

Furthermore, with Emiliano Martinez having a great pre-season, it remains to be seen if Ospina is even Arsenal’s third-choice goalkeeper.

The 29-year-old former Nice goalkeeper, needs a move to increase his chances of playing first-team football and with Meret out, a move to Napoli seems like a wise one.

From an Arsenal perspective, Emery has admitted that Ospina is one of three players who the club are willing to sell.
