The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to get seriously concerned about their side’s Premier League standing this season. They’re still in the relegation zone, despite winning against Chelsea over the weekend, and things aren’t looking very good.
The next few weeks, then, will be pivotal. Not only could results determine their chances of succeeding in their goal to stay up in the second-half of the season, but with the January transfer window fast approaching, who they sign will also play a big role in how things go.
Fortunately, West Ham fans have some good news to celebrate in that regard as per David Sullivan himself. According to the Daily Mail, the West Ham chairman has revealed what the club’s plans are for January in his pre-match programme notes ahead of Wednesday evening’s Arsenal game.
He said, according to the programme notes (via the Daily Mail): “The January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks and we will be looking to strengthen the squad..you can rest assured that two or three new players will be brought in to improve the team”
West Ham’s squad is certainly lacking depth, and their business over the summer was widely criticised amongst the West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern. In truth, it’s been a while since they have had a good window, though our resident Hammers are hoping that that will change heading into January.
There are certainly a few areas that are lacking quality at present, with persistent issues at the back and in the attack continuing to plague David Moyes.
Still, it appears as though that could change in January, and that will give the Scotsman a decent chance of ensuring survival this season. It would be a disaster for the club if they were relegated, so, fortunately, there is a lot of time for things to turn around.
