Arsenal fans were left frustrated inside the Football Transfer Tavern, following the clubs failure to secure the services of David Villa on deadline day, but Anthony Kastrinakis of The Sun believes the Spanish striker still has his heart set on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Barcelona insiders reckon Villa is desperate to make the move to the Premier League after deciding once and for all to quit the Camp Nou.
The Spaniard has left than a year on his contract, meaning Arsenal can recruit him for less that the £16 million they were quoted in January.
After a long-term injury last season, Villa has failed to earn a regular first team place in Tito Vilanova’s side, and at 31 is desperate to join a club where he will feature as the main man once more.
He has made just 15 starts in all competitions for Barca this season, and has still managed 10 goals.
Villa earns around £110,000-a-week at the Catalan club, so his wages will not cripple the Londoners financially, but Wenger’s policy of not offering players over 30 more than a one-year-contract may prove to be the stumbling block.
It is thought he may be willing to make an exception for Villa by offering a three-year-deal, in a move that may go some way to appeasing the frustrated Arsenal supporters.
