Davies switch forces Liverpool boss to revisit failed swoop

Ryan BertrandLiverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with interest after the Daily Mail claimed that the Reds have revisited the idea of signing Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand.

As one of our punters notes, the twice capped England defender is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and that means he will be on the move this summer.

After a loan spell at Aston Villa last season, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has elected to bring in Filipe Luis and also has Cesar Azpilicueta, meaning there is simply no room for Bertrand at the club.

Now Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is once again making moves to bring the former Gillingham trainee to Anfield and after missing out on Swansea City’s Ben Davies who joined Tottenham yesterday.

One of the major weak spots for Liverpool in their title challenge last season was their defence and getting in players who are trusted by Rodgers to man the back four.

Bertrand did look like having a good career at Chelsea once upon a time, but as our regulars note, that has turned out to have been far from the case. The Blues are looking for £8 million for the defender but may resist an approach from a title rival.

Chelsea fans. Would you allow Bertrand to leave for Liverpool? Would that help or hinder their title challenge? Let us know your thoughts below.
