Rangers supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side move back up to second place in the Scottish Premiership table courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Ross County on Sunday.
Graeme Murty’s men saw Aberdeen leapfrog them in the table on Saturday after easing past Kilmarnock 3-0 at Pittodrie, yet the Gers responded well to reclaim second place in the division in the Highlands on Sunday. Goals from Daniel Candeias and Jason Cummings set them on their way to all three points, and although David Ngog got one back for the hosts late on, it wasn’t enough to deny Murty’s men a 14th league win of the campaign, and their return to second place in the table.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Rangers fans in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Daily Record, which suggests that they have suffered a deadline day setback in pursuit of Swansea City youngster Oli McBurnie.
The 21-year-old striker was linked with a move to Ibrox earlier today as Murty sought after further reinforcements to his playing squad, with the Scotland Under-21 international unlikely to command regular football under Carlos Carvalhal at the Liberty Stadium in the second half of the season.
However, the Gers have suffered a blow as McBurnie will reportedly move to Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season, and it now remains to be seen whether Rangers, in action against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup this evening, consider further deals in the last knockings of the window.
Landlord’s verdict: Graeme Murty has certainly stamped his authority on things at Rangers this month, with several shrewd additions made to give our resident Gers fans cause for optimism ahead of the second half of the season.
However, Oli McBurnie won’t be moving to Ibrox on deadline day, as he is set to reportedly link up with Chris Coleman’s Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season – Rangers were reportedly in talks with parent club Swansea City earlier today about a possible move.
And this may come as a setback to Murty and the club’s supporters, who will now see whether their club seek further additions in the final few hours of the window.
