Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are relieved to hear a long saga is finally reaching the end, as their first signing of the January window is set to be completed.
Arsenal are bringing in the defensive-midfielder as cover to the injured Francis Coquelin, with the 23-year-old Egyptian international set to become Arsene Wenger’s first major outfield signing in 12 months.
Wenger spoke to the media about Elneny after the Gunners 3-1 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, which put the defending champions into the hat for the fourth round draw, as the French boss revealed the signing is imminent.
“We hope to announce a player in the next 24 to 48 hours. I don’t need to tell you the name. After that we will see [about other deals].”
Our Arsenal punters are delighted that this deal will go through quickly, though they have expressed their concern at Wenger’s hint that this may be the only deal he completes this month.
