Deal close: Arsenal to complete £5m signing this week

ElnenyArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are scrambling around a laptop to watch YouTube videos of a player set to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The London Evening Standard states that Mohamed Elneny’s proposed £5m switch from FC Basel to North London could be completed in the coming days.

Arsenal are drafting in the 23-year-old Egyptian international as cover for the Egyptian international, moving quickly to seal a deal as they aim to keep their Premier League title push on track.

A move is reported to have been delayed due to work permit issues, that require Arsenal to appeal for special dispensation, but all parties expect there to be no further issues and believe the transfer will be sealed swiftly.

It’s good news for Arsenal, who will seal their first outfield signing in 12 months after Arsene Wenger shocked everybody by failing to add any senior outfield players last summer- with his only major addition being Petr Cech.

With recent signings Cech, Gabriel Paulista, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil all shining in North London, our landlord believes Wenger will have no problems making Elneny a success in the Premier League.
