Aston Villa fans playing a game of poker to cheer themselves up will be happy to hear that the Villans are ready to end Charles N’Zogbia’s Aston Villa nightmare by offloading the winger to AEK Athens, according to the Telegraph.
The former Newcastle and Wigan midfielder is expected to leave Villa Park this month in a loan move to the Greek club, who are currently being managed by former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet.
Despite being at the club for a massively unimpressive four-and-a-half years, the France international is one of Villa’s highest earners on £65,000 a week.
That wage has already seen N’Zobgia earn a staggering £15 million, despite making only 63 starts, none of which have come this season as he has managed just two substitute appearances for the side who sit at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Villa fans are not expected to miss the midfielder, who was signed from Wigan Athletic back in 2011 and has only managed five goals since then.
N’Zogbia almost joined Hull City on loan in January last year, but now Greek outfit AEK Athens are interested in loaning the 29-year old for the rest of the season, which would take him to the end of his lucrative Villa contract.
The winger is also understood to have offers from clubs in America, whilst Villa could even look to terminate N’Zogbia’s contract to get him off the wage bill. Aston Villa manager Remi Garde said:
“Charles is a player that could leave the club but this is his decision mainly. I’ve had some phone calls for him. You can never say it is his last game. You never know in football, but for the moment he’s not playing for me.”
“I try to respect everybody as a person because I’m like that but sometimes you have to make a decision that makes people not happy. This situation [at Villa] has been created for a long time and there are decisions that have to be made to change things.”
