Deal close: Chelsea and Man City set to miss out on dream signing

Pep GuardiolaChelsea and Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have expressed their disappointment after a drawn-out saga edged closer to a finish, which isn’t good news for the Premier League clubs.

The Daily Mirror state Pep Guardiola is set for a two-year contract extension at Bayern Munich, with the Bavarian side confident he will put pen to paper before Christmas.

Guardiola’s current deal expires at the end of the season but Bayern are looking to ensure the former Barcelona boss remains at the Allianz Arena, extending his deal until 2017 and paying him £17m-a-year.

The Catalan boss has made it clear he wants to manage in the Premier League but the door has now been left open for Manchester United, with Louis Van Gaal set to retire in 2017, and Arsenal; with long-term manager Arsene Wenger approaching his own retirement.

Chelsea and Manchester City, however, were looking for a more imminent arrival and it’s likely they will appoint a new boss before the summer of 2017- meaning their chances of securing Guardiola’s signature could be over.
