Deal close: Chelsea finalising midfielder deal with European giant

Nathaniel ChalobahChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have taken time out of their day to moan to our bar staff about their lack of transfer activity, though their eyes were caught earlier today by interesting reports from the continent.

Gazzetta Dello Sport state that Napoli are close to agreeing a permanent deal with Chelsea for midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, with the 21-year-old impressing on-loan in Naples.

Chalobah is highly-rated at Stamford Bridge and tipped for a bright future, so it’s a massive blow for our punters to see the youngster set for a transfer away from the club- becoming the latest in a long-line of youngsters to grow frustrated at their chances in West London.

Napoli’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will be in London over the weekend to finalise a deal, with Chalobah set to complete his permanent switch to Naples- and he’ll be hoping to lift the Serie A this season, with Napoli currently top of the pile.

Our landlord believes this is a further indication that Chelsea need to put more trust in their young talent and ensure they aren’t tempted abroad, as he feels an exit of Chalobah will come back to haunt them.
