Deal close: Chelsea on-verge of appointing spectacular new manager

ConteChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy few days in the latter stages of the transfer window but the latest news has got our punters discussing managers over their afternoon pints.

Metro cites claims that state Italy boss Antonio Conte is on verge of becoming the latest manager at Stamford Bridge, with the former Juventus boss taking charge at the end of the season.

Conte, who has won eight Serie A titles as a player and a manager in Italy, is seeking a new challenge in England after this summer’s European Championship in France.

The 46-year-old is set to leave his post with the national side after the summer’s exploits and Chelsea want him as the long-term replacement to Jose Mourinho, who was dismissed before Christmas following an abysmal run with the Blues.

Guus Hiddink is currently in interim charge of Chelsea, for the second-time in his career, and has overseen a solid period with the Blues who remain unbeaten since the Dutchman took charge. However, he’s extremely unlikely to remain beyond the summer.
