Deal close: Club confirm midfielder’s imminent Arsenal switch

ElnenyArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are bracing themselves for the first piece of January transfer business, which seems set to be completed imminently.

FC Basel confirmed on their official website this morning that Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny missed training this morning to finalise a transfer away from the Swiss side.

‘Also absent was Mohamed Elneny, for who there could be a transfer in the coming days.’

Arsenal are widely expected to complete a move for the Egyptian defensive midfielder, which stories plaguing the back pages since late December, and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud stated yesterday he understands a move will take place soon.

“I know that maybe we sign a player, an Egyptian one…”

Last week The Guardian stated the Egyptian had completed a medical with the Gunners, whilst Sport Witness claim the transfer was delayed due to work permit issues.

Elneny will provide cover for the injured Francis Coquelin, giving Arsenal stronger in defensive midfield- which could be crucial in their quest to land the Premier League title.
