Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing reports that they've read which claimed that one of their players is unlikely to return to the club this season.

Articles from the Birmingham Mail have revealed that attacking midfielder, Joe Cole, is hoping to extend his loan period at the Ricoh Arena until the end of the season.

The out-of-favour Englishman looks likely to extend his loan to at least the New Year with reports suggesting that a permanent deal could be a possibility at the end of the campaign.

Cole initially joined the Sky Blues on a months-long loan but has been frustrated by injury which has resulted in a lack of game time.

According to reports, following his debut for Coventry in a goalless draw against Rochdale, the former England international declared he would like to stay for the remainder of the season. Coventry's boss said:

“He’s had a chat with Villa, Mark Venus has had a chat with Villa and I think the best option at the moment is to take it to January, try to get him to a physical condition where he can play football matches for us and stop chasing games,”

“Without anything being concrete, we are in discussions and will try to take it to January, use that period in the FA Cup week to build his strength and hopefully get him to a stage where he’s playing football matches for us."

Despite his lack of fitness and struggle for game time, Cole has settled in extremely well at the Ricoh and is certainly keen to make the permanent switch.
