Deal close: Liverpool agree terms to land Italian international

RanocchiaLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are bracing themselves for another new arrival, having only just finished celebrating the addition of Marko Grujic yesterday.

Reports from The Metro last night stated Liverpool had verbally agreed a deal with defender Andrea Ranocchia, whilst it’s now been added by Gazzetta Dello Sport that a deal is close after Liverpool lodged a formal £6.5m bid.

Liverpool are anxiously seeking defensive additions as they prepare for tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Exeter City without any senior central defenders, having seen their squad plagued by injury problems in the past few weeks.

Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho are amongst those sidelined, which has led Jurgen Klopp to seek defensive recruits as he aims to assemble a side that is capable of fighting against the odds and landing a top-four spot.

Klopp made his first signing as Liverpool manager yesterday with the addition of Marko Grujic but the Serbian youngster is very much one for the future, with the 19-year-old immediately returning to former side Red Star Belgrade on-loan until the end of the current campaign.

Our landlord fears the worst for Liverpool if they don’t fix their shaky defence soon, with Premier League leaders Arsenal travelling to Anfield for a mammoth clash next week.
