Deal close: Liverpool boss flies out to seal Klopp’s first transfer

klopp0022Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have reserved a bottle of bubbly behind the bar as they countdown to celebrating the first transfer made by Jurgen Klopp during his tenure on Merseyside.

The Mirror states Liverpool’s Chief Executive Ian Ayre flew out to Belgrade to close a deal for Red Star’s midfield sensation Marko Grujic.

19-year-old Grujic will be secured for a fee of £5m but the teenager will be immediately loaned back to Red Star for the duration of the season, with the club currently flying-high at the top of the Serbian league.

Grujic is highly-regarded as one of the best young prospects in European football and has attracted a wealth of attention in recent weeks, including that of Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Liverpool look set to win the race for his signature though, with the player confirming talks had been held with the Reds last week.

“I’ll try to respect the club, the fans and the general public, but again I think that for myself I have to choose the best environment where I get the chance to play and where I work with good coaches in good conditions.

“It is certain that I remain here until the end of qualifying for the Champions League. I had a talk with Liverpool but I did not receive yet any agreement. I’m still a Red Star player.”
