Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern spent a lot of time after their draw at the weekend discussing their transfer plans and were happy with one imminent signing.
The Guardian states that Liverpool and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet are close to agreeing a new contract, as Jurgen Klopp puts faith in the Belgian international.
Mignolet has endured a topsy-turvy season, making his fair share of mistakes, but Klopp has publicly backed the goalkeeper and has dismissed claims that he will look to sign a replacement when the transfer window reopens.
The goalkeeper currently has two-and-a-half years remaining on the deal he signed when he joined from Sunderland but Liverpool are prepared to raise his wages higher than the £60k-a-week he is currently earning.
Whilst Mignolet has been criticised publicly, and by many fans, Klopp recently dubbed the goalkeeper as one of the smartest he has ever worked with.
With Liverpool’s first-choice stopper set to be tied-down for the long term, it’s another show of faith from Klopp who continues to assess the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers.
