Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have slumped on the bar stools today after they dropped two points against Newcastle United last night and there’s not too much on the transfer front to raise their spirits.
Metro state that the Red Devils are to complete an imminent deal surrounding a midfielder but it’s not one to raise the roof, as instead it will see youngster Liam Grimshaw join Preston North End.
Grimshaw has spent the first-half of the season on-loan with Scottish side Motherwell and the side north of the border were extremely keen to land the 20-year-old on a permanent deal.
However, their manager Mark McGhee has confirmed today that Preston have hijacked the deal.
‘We have been gazumped at the last minute by an English club who offered a package that we simply cannot compete with. We had hoped to make the move permanent this month, with talks at an advanced stage.’
‘We’ve held numerous very positive talks with both Liam and his representatives about the possibility of him becoming a Motherwell player. So much so, our plan was to try and finalise an agreement with Manchester United this week.’
‘Whilst that is frustrating, we completely understand everyone’s position.’
Our landlord thinks this is a good deal from the youngster but the fans aren’t bothered at all, as they’re desperate for high profile signing and that thirst hasn’t been quenched.
