Deal close: Midfielder agrees contract ahead of £5m Liverpool switch

klopp0022Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been drinking for all sorts of reasons this season, mixing celebration with commiseration, and they’ve raised their glasses in anticipation of Jurgen Klopp’s first signing for the club.

The Liverpool Echo state a deal is in place for Marko Grujic to sign for the Reds in a deal worth £5m, after agreeing a five-year contract with the Merseyside outfit.

19-year-old Grujic is highly-rated having impressed for Serbia’s U21 side, as well as Red Star Belgrade this season- the club he’s expected to rejoin on-loan until the end of the current season.

Liverpool beat Inter Milan to the player’s signature and Grujic is expected to arrive in Merseyside in the coming days to undergo a medical with the team’s doctors.

It marks the first signing of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as Liverpool manager since he took over as Reds boss earlier this campaign, replacing Brendan Rodgers following Liverpool’s demise this season.

Signs of improvement have been made under the guidance of Klopp but our regulars are under no illusion that further alterations are necessary if the Reds are to return to Champions League football.
