Deal Close: Newcastle United set to sign England midfielder

ShelveyThe landlord has returned from the office where he has been counting the profits and checking the Transfer Tavern’s emails and he has some good news for the Newcastle United supporting punters at the bar.

He has just spotted an article on BBC Sport that has announced that the Magpies have agreed a fee in the region of £12 million with Swansea City for the services of central midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

The ex-Liverpool man has struggled for form of late and the Swans are now expected to use the funds raised to bolster their midfield ranks, in their bid to fend off the threat of relegation.

One Newcastle fan who is potting a few balls on the pool table in the Tavern, thinks Shelvey will be a great signing for the Toon Army and believes the player is joining a much bigger club- though the Magpies are also fighting off the threat of a drop to the second-tier of English football.

A Swansea fan waiting to be served at the bar thinks Shelvey’s attitude has let him down of late and doesn’t believe he had the fire in his belly to stick out a poor run of form with the South Wales club.

Newcastle fans… What do you make to this signing? Let us know in the comments below!
