Stoke City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were disappointed with their opening weekend defeat to Liverpool, but one silver lining appears to be the fact Inter Milan playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri was spotted in the crowd at the Britannia.
The Swiss international has been a summer target for Mark Hughes, however reports late last week suggested the deal was off, with Premier League rivals Everton having also registered an interest.
However, Shaqiri was spotted in the crowd during the Potters 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, and the Daily Mail believe he is close to becoming the club’s record signing after a £13.5million deal was agreed.
The 23-year-old has passed a medical at the Britannia, and is set to become the latest in the growing list of impressive signings made by Mark Hughes.
Shaqiri only completed his move to Inter Milan from Bayern Munich last January, having been heavily linked with Liverpool.
He failed to make an impact at the San Siro during the second half of last season, and now looks set to try his luck in the Premier League.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern feels this is an absolutely sensational move for Stoke City, and admits that the Swiss international could easily fit into any top four side in the Premier League.
