Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have quickly dived onto the sofas this afternoon as they anticipated an announcement of what could be a significant deal for their hopes of fighting off an awful start to the season.
Brazilian outlet SporTV state the deal taking Alexandre Pato to Chelsea is waiting on the final signatures, with the Corinthians striker passing a medical with the West London side ahead of a loan deal.
“Pato has passed his medicals and we shall have, at any time, the signing of the contract and then the official confirmation by the club, which still hasn’t said anything about the loan,”
Pato had already spoken to the same outlet upon his arrival in the capital, where he stated he was keen to get going with Chelsea.
“I’m happy here. I could work hard in my days at the training ground (at Corinthians), now I shall do the medicals, sign the contract and who knows, stay here (Europe) for the rest of my life. I don’t have much to say [about injuries], only to prove,”
The striker will provide competition for Diego Costa in the Chelsea attack and his arrival could allow Loic Remy to complete a move away from the club, with a number of Premier League sides looking at his signature.
