Deal close: Tottenham approve exit of first-team defender

fazio4Tottenham fans enjoying a pint in the Tavern after their last gasp draw with Leicester in the FA Cup will be anything but upset with the latest news, which suggest a flop signing of theirs will be offloaded.

The Daily Mirror report that Spurs will look to cut their losses on defender Federico Fazio, who has struggled to make an impact during his time at White Hart Lane.

The Argentine has not played in a single Premier League game so far this season and has featured just once for Spurs when he started in a 2-1 defeat to rivals Arsenal in the Capital One Cup.

Spurs signed Fazio from Sevilla for an estimated £8million back in 2014, but the Daily Mirror claim that the 28-year old is in advanced talks with his former club with the hope of making a return to Spain.

Fazio’s imminent departure could put a halt to negotiations on Kevin Wimmer’s proposed loan move away from White Hart Lane, with Mauricio Pochettino wanting to keep him at the club as a backup option with the club hoping to go on a decent run in the Europe League, as well as looking to achieve a top four finish.

Our landlord believes that this is a crucial piece of business for Spurs to complete, stating that offloading deadwood is just as important as signing top-class players in the race for Champions League football.

Spurs fans, who would you look to sign to replace Fazio? Let us know in the comments below!
