Deal confirmed for Chelsea defender

Chelsea add yet another defensive starlet to their loan army – to the surprise of absolutely nobody in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Whilst the Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are unsurprisingly more focused on who might be joining their club today, it will come as no surprise to them to learn of yet another loan departure from the club’s youth system.

As confirmed on Aldershot Town’s official website, Chelsea starlet Dion Conroy has left the Blues on a loan deal until January 2017, as the young defender continues his development.

Discussing the move, Conroy said: “I want to play men’s football, test myself, and do something different”

He also discussed his play style, stating: “I see myself as a ball-playing centre-half, and a good defender. I’ve been taught to play good football”

Like many of his peers throughout the Chelsea development system, Conroy has had an extremely productive spell in recent years.

He has won the FA Youth Cup, a trophy that Chelsea have made their own in recent years, as well as the hugely coveted under-21 Premier League – among other trophies.

Whilst he is not a massive name here in the Football Transfer Tavern, a couple of the more vocal Chelsea fans have frequently touted him for greatness with the Blues.

If you haven’t seen Conroy play before, he is a simple if not spectacular defender; comfortable with the ball on his feet and he is proficient in the air. Take a look at this compilation video featuring some of his best bits from a game against Reading U21’s last season…

The move is particularly interesting given Chelsea’s troubles at centre-half this summer, with the Blues thus far being unsuccessful in their quest to sign a new central defender.

The Chelsea brass seemingly don’t see Conroy as being good enough for a Chelsea start just yet – but could this change in the future?

Chelsea fans – we want to hear from you! Do you think Conroy might make it as a Blue in the future?
