Tottenham Hotspur fans are sinking a few pints in commiseration after hearing that a deal for a highly-rated midfielder has fallen to pieces.
The Independent reports that talk between Spurs and midfielder Milos Veljkovic regarding a new contract have fallen through, with the top-rated defensive midfield prospect now set to leave North London in January.
20-year-old Veljkovic sees his current contract expire at the end of the season, where he would be able to leave on a free transfer, and Tottenham are looking to cash-in on the player in January to ensure they receive a fee for his services.
The Serbian U20 international hoped that his performances at the U20 World Cup this summer would earn him a lucrative new deal and first-team opportunities but both have not been forthcoming.
So far the strongest interest in Veljkovic’s services have come from the Bundesliga and Serbia but Spurs face a task in January, as clubs outside of England will be aware they are free to discuss a pre-contractual agreement with the midfielder in the New Year before capturing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Spurs fans, does Veljkovic deserve his chance in the first-team? Let us know in the comments below!
