William Gallas is the latest Premier League star to be linked with a move to New York Red Bulls after contract talks with Tottenham ground to a halt.
The 33 year old full back was offered a deal by New York last summer and he could be tempted to cash in before his career draws to a close. Gallas has performed well for Spurs since his move from Arsenal in the summer and his vast experience will be a huge influence within the changing room.
With Spurs’ defenders habitually injury prone a level head such as Gallas gives any less experienced replacement confidence and reassurance. The French international has an option of a further 12 months but with MLS clubs circling he could be tempted to join former Arsenal teammate Henry in what is quickly becoming the Major League pension scheme.
Redknapp will obviously be keen to hold on to him and if they manage to qualify for the Champions League a second year running that should be too much of an incentive for him to stay. That, of course, hangs in the balance and a more favourable audit come retirement might mean a lot more to Gallas than the Europa League.
