There is disappointment for not one but two clubs here in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon as it has been claimed by talkSPORT that Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao is not for sale.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool has been rumoured to fancy the left back and given the troubles the 25-year-old has faced at Real Madrid, a move could well have been on the cards. Now however it has been claimed that the Bernabeu-based side wish to keep the left back and are not willing to sell him to any Premier League side.
The other option for Real Madrid is to use Coentrao as a makeweight in any deal that would bring Edinson Cavani to the club and again this would see the Premier League duo miss out on the left back.
Liverpool are of course desperate for defensive reinforcements and face a summer of buying and selling. Chelsea for their part always seem to be buying and despite having Ashley Cole tied down to a new deal, they feel that having two quality players per position is something worthwhile and given that Ryan Bertrand hasn’t tore up any trees this term, the Blues had been interested.
Would Coentrao have proved a decent signing for Chelsea or Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
