After two seasons with Everton, Johnny Heitinga looks set to lave the club in January, after manager David Moyes admitted recently he is unsure whether the player will still be at Goodison Park by the time the transfer window closes.
Speculation has been rife that the defender could be on his way to German champions Bayern Munich, but rumours are circulating this morning that the Dutchman will instead opt to return to the Netherlands and his boyhood club, Ajax.
The 2008 Dutch footballer of the year, Heitinga came up through the ranks of Ajax’s famous Jong Ajax reserve team with the likes of Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Cristian Chivu.
The defender now looks set to return home and give something back to the club which gave him his chance as a professional footballer.
Which is nice.
