Reports have surfaced touting a potential swap deal involving Asamoah Gyan and Jermain Defoe. Spurs would have to come up with an additional £5m to complete any deal. Any deal could be ideal for both parties, as Spurs look for a top-class striker to make them a force next season and Defoe looks to reignite his career after a lack lustre season in London.
Defoe has struggled all season, slipping down the pecking order behind the likes of Pavlyuchenko and Crouch. The 28 year-old striker managed a measly four premiership goals last season and has often been criticised by the White Hart Lane faithful for his spurned chances, eventually costing Redknapp’s side dearly in the race for that coveted fourth spot.
With the arrival of the mercurial Van der Vaart. Harry has often opted to play Crouch ahead the Dutchman with two marauding wingers in the shape of Lennon and Bale hugging the touchlines. This in Europe, particularly against the two Milan giants has proved devastating as Spurs’s sheer attacking vibrancy bludgeoned the Italians into submission.
Steve Bruce has already splashed £30m in bringing in the likes of Wickham, O’Shea and Brown and despite generating close to £40m from the sales of Henderson and Bent. Bruce is keen to add more to the coffers in order to lure Charles N’Zogbia and Darron Gibson to the north-east.
