The weekend’s barely underway but before you can relax and grab a glass of something cold, your desperate to rush home switch on the laptop and make sure your up to date with all of the latest transfer rumours from the Barclays Premiership.
So to stop you spending the rest of the weekend trawling the Internet in search of your hit of the footballing latest hears a round-up of some of the names being linked with moves elsewhere.
We start the whistle stop tour at St James’ park where Danny Guthrie’s future appears to be becoming increasingly uncertain. Newcastle’s contract talks with the midfielder appear to be stalling and have been put on hold until the end of the season, with The Mail suggesting that Aston Villa could be ready to pounce and make Guthrie a counter offer. Guthrie himself is quoted in The Newcastle Chronicle as stating,
“I’m scheduled for talks. Come the end of the season, my agent will be in touch with the club, or vice versa. We’re just waiting to see what happens.”
The form of Cabaye and Tiote has seen Guthrie struggle to hold down a regular first team position this season, and Aston Villa would perhaps be able to offer 24 year-old Guthrie more first-team opportunity should the midfielder feel this is necessary to further his career.
Next we head south to consider the future of Fulham’s Moussa Dembele. The Belgian international has impressed ever since his arrival in the Premiership and Fulham are desperate to tie the player down beyond his current deal which runs until the end of next season.
However The Mail understands that Tottenham have already had two bids rejects, while Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to be closely monitoring the situation.
The arrival of Pavel Pogrebnyak has seen Dembele pushed into a midfield role but the 24 year-old has continued to impress meaning Fulham are willing to offer the player a pay rise beyond his current earnings of £35,000 a week. However each of the clubs linked with the player have the spending power to surpass whatever wages Fulham can offer and the opportunity to offer a more realistic prospect of challenging for trophies may tempt the technically gifted forward to cut short his spell in West London.
Another striker who is almost certain to make a move this summer is Huddersfield’s Jordan Rhodes. The 21 year-old has caught the eye of many an admire this season with an impressive goal scoring record of 33 goals in 33 games, and was recently named league 1 player of the year.
An array of the great and good of the Premiership have been linked with Rhodes thus far with the striker memorably scoring 5 goals against Wycombe when the Sky Cameras caught Tottenham’s Clive Allen and Joe Jordan on a scouting mission.
The latest manager to take a shine to the talented Scotland international is Alan Pardew who is believed to be more than happy to meet Huddersfield’s rumoured £6 million valuation.
Finally, The London Evening Standard are reporting that Tottenham are ready to step up their pursuit to make the presence of Emmanuel Adebayor at White Hart Lane a permanant one.
The Telegraph believe that Manchester City want around £8 million for the former Gunner, which it seems Spurs are prepared to offer. However one stumbling block may be the 28 year-old’s wages with Manchester City currently paying the former Togo international in the region of £170,000 a week, with The Telegraph reasonably suggesting that this not a figure Tottenham will be able to match.
