Cirkin is reportedly in Jose Mourinho’s plans ahead of £14.4m-valued star Danny Rose, with the club now set to tie down the 18-yeaar-old with a bumper contract.
Cirkin has impressed Mourinho
As reported by Football Insider, Tottenham are making huge strides in securing a fresh deal for the youngster and could announce the new contract over these next few weeks.
Indeed, a source told Football Insider that a ‘breakthrough’ has been made, and when the deal is announced, Cirkin will be committed as a Lilywhites defender until 2022.
Cirkin only put pen to paper on his first professional contract last November, but Mourinho is apparently a huge admirer of the teenager and has decided to extend his stay in north London.
The Daily Mail also hinted that his presence allows Spurs to try and offload wantaway star Rose, with the Spurs manager currently having three left-backs from which to choose in Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies and Cirkin.
Tottenham no brainer?
It’s no secret that the 18-year-old is hugely rated by Mourinho, with the Portuguese having already lauded his ‘quality‘.
Making 25 appearances for the Lilywhites’ under-18s since the start of the 2018/19 season, the promising England youth international has managed two assists from the left-back position.
Described as a player with real energy and technical ability by Alasdair Gold, it appears Cirkin has a bright future ahead of him.
As per this Football Insider report, his promise is now set to be rewarded, and don’t be surprised if we see more of the teenager over the coming season.
