HITC is reporting that the Premier League strugglers will target a move for Derby County front man Chris Martin if, as expected, Charlie Austin decides to stay at Queens Park Rangers in January.
Sunderland have struggled for goals so far this season, with Jermain Defoe appearing to have lost his scoring touch at present, and with Steven Fletcher also not performing new manager Sam Allardyce is being forced to look elsewhere for someone to fire the club to safety.
Scottish international Martin has netted seven goals in 12 appearances for Derby in the Championship this season, and is noted for his physical presence up front and linking with his midfield players well.
The Sunderland fans in The Transfer Tavern are delighted to be linked with a player like Martin and hope boss Sam Allardyce can secure a deal for the striker come January.
