Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are going into this weekend’s Derby in red-hot form.
Liverpool go into the Merseyside Derby as clear favourites despite Everton’s mini-resurgence under new manager Sam Allardyce. Klopp’s side are in free-scoring form as of late and managing to keep clean sheets as a bonus, while Everton have back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
The Toffees now sit mid-table and 11 points behind their rivals who sit fourth in the league and, like many of our bar staff who predicted pre-season, a top six finish after an expensive transfer window bringing in some serious talent doesn’t seem so ridiculous now.
A win for Everton would be a massive momentum builder and by chopping the gap down to eight points, our regulars think with Liverpool’s defensive issues still at large, the Toffees would be more than capable of catching up their neighbours.
Would this be one of Allardyce’s greatest achievements if he could pull off a top-six finish? What could be better if they pip Liverpool in the league too? At the start of the season in the post-Koeman games, talk of relegation was beginning to surface but under the former England manager, the club seems re-invigorated.
Can an Everton win in the Merseyside Derby propel the Toffees up the league and start to chop down the gap between them and Liverpool.
Everton fans do you think you can catch and beat Liverpool in the league this season?
