Recent reports in the Football Transfer Tavern suggested that Liverpool had agreed a deal with Derby County for wonderkid Will Hughes.
However today Tom Hopkinson from The Sunday People has arrived in the tavern with an update that has left Reds supporters sat around the bar feeling disappointed.
He says that the Championship club insist that no deal has been agreed to see the youngster join Liverpool in January, despite the recent speculation.
Hopkinson indicates that the Rams are confident that their new £7million boost from stadium naming rights could see them hang onto the 18-year-old until after the summer.
Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign the England U-21 international midfielder, and reports last week pleased punters by indicating that it was a done deal.
Derby now insist that no offer has been made from Anfield and they hope that the new sponsorship arrangement could make it even more unlikely that he stays.
However Brendan Rodgers also recently confirmed that the speculation was incorrect, although he did admit that he would like to sign him in the future, calling him ‘a wonderful young talent’
The Reds will have to meet the Rams’ £15million valuation to land Hughes but today’s rumour has left Reds fans wondering if they will now miss on the talented midfielder.
