Newcastle United remain just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, yet there remains a feel-good factor within the camp in this moment of time.
And one player who has been displaying that is midfielder Mohamed Diame with the 31-year-old confident his team have what it takes to avoid the drop.
“Two weeks ago we showed that we can beat any team,” Diame told Chronicle Live. “We have to [continue to] fight together. We need this attitude and team spirit we had last season and this season also. It’s there, we know, and I’m pretty sure we will do it.
“The team has been working well in the last three games. We need to keep going. The attitude was good. We try to not concede any more in the last minute.”
Diame’s words on Newcastle being able to beat any team is, of course, in reference to his side’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the end of last month where they were excellent.
Ultimately, it was a match that really lifted the mood at St. James’ Park with it accompanying the arrival of January signing Miguel Almiron.
A result like that, plus the addition of an exciting attacker like Almiron, could be a game changer in the Magpies’ season and is exactly why there is an upbeat atmosphere at the club right now.
